On Saturday, August 21, the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ Monastery for women, in Kemp, Texas, will host a day-long retreat for girls, 13 to 18 years of age. The event will begin with Divine Liturgy at 9:00 am, followed by breakfast and presentations on both Mission and Music. Registration for the retreat is $25 per participant to help cover expenses for meals and guest speakers. Although official publicity has not yet been sent out, more information will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead. We feel sure that the retreat will actually be held in Kemp, but in case of a site change to St. Seraphim Cathedral updates will be given. Please see Fr. Basil for more information, or one may also check the monastery website: nativityofourlordmonastery.com.

On Sunday, September 5, immediately after the Divine Liturgy and Coffee Hour, St. Barbara’s will hold its annual Labor Day Picnic at the Lake House of Lucy Muns in Chico, Texas. Those who attended previous Chico outings know that this is a much anticipated event: barbeque, swimming, and fellowship. Plan on an hour and a half drive to Lucy’s home, and then hours of fun. Parents, please bring sunscreen for yourselves and children, as well as any necessary flotation devices. Bring as well, suitable picnic/swimming clothes for everyone to change into after the Divine Liturgy. We want to thank Lucy in advance for this generous gift to the parish.

In February of 2011, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas, Texas will once again host The Festival of Orthodoxy, a bi-yearly event that attracts as many as 500+ people (Orthodox and non-Orthodox) for a day of worship, fellowship and education. The Festival features guest speakers and workshops, devoted to presentations on Orthodoxy, and provides take home materials on the Faith as well, for the many visitors in attendance. Sponsored by NTOM (North Texas Orthodox Missions) this is a Pan Orthodox effort. On the Friday night prior to the main presentations at Holy Trinity Church, a Ft. Worth segment of the Festival will be held at the main auditorium at the Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens and hosted by St. Peter’s Antiochian Orthodox Church. Main presenters will be Dr. Tristan Englehart and Khouria Frederica Matthewes Green who will speak on issues related to the Festival’s theme of Bioethics. More information will be forthcoming. This is a great event for which we can plan to invite friends and family.

Currently our Catechumen/Inquirer Classes are meeting on Wednesday evenings after Daily Vespers. We are using The Faith by Clark Carlton as a guide for our discussions. Anyone may attend and everyone is invited. We try to limit our sessions to about an hour, with questions and answers both during and after the class. For more information please contact Fr. Basil.
