Announcements October 2022

Visit of Bishop Gerasim on October 9

We are excited to announce that His Grace, the Right Reverend Gerasim, Bishop of Ft. Worth will visit St. Barbara’s on Sunday, October 9.  That particular day is the feast of Saint Tikhon, Enlightener of North America, and we look forward to His Grace’s presence on such a significant celebration for the Orthodox Church in America.

The faithful at St. Barbara’s will greet His Grace, Bishop Gerasim at 9:30 am, on October 9, at the front doors of the Church. A reception will follow the Hierarchical Liturgy. It is a non-fast day so meat, dairy and egg products are possible and desirable. Matushka Christine Zebrun will coordinate the reception for that day.  Please see her with any questions.  A sign-up sheet is available in the hall.

Fall Church School Classes

Sacraments of the Church along with Orthodox Christian Fundamentals will constitute the overarching themes for Church School Classes during the Fall and Spring semesters at St. Barbara’s.  Teachers and youth will review the Seven Major Sacraments of Orthodoxy, as well as basics of Orthodoxy. Class schedules will follow past models:  once a month at 4:30 pm on the 2nd Saturday each month, with handouts provided for parents.  Please see Matushka Christine or Fr. Basil for more information. Classes this coming month: Saturday, October 8.   Since Bishop Gerasim will be with us on October 9, we will review with the children unique things they will see and do in light of the Episcopal visit.

Greeters Invite

A Greeters Ministry is an important outreach and hospitality arm of any parish. We desire that our own Greeters Ministry continue to be a strength within the parish as it has been over the years. We wish to thank past and current greeters, for their warm and friendly efforts.  Please see Reader Stephen Bodnarchuk for how you can help with this effort.  Experience is not required; only a friendly face and a desire to welcome guests into God’s House.

Workshop, Confession and Meetings

This month’s General Confession will be held on Wednesday, October 19, at 6:00 pm. A Council Meeting will be convened Thursday, October 20, at 6:30 pm.  A Readers Workshop will be conducted on Sunday, October, 23, after the Liturgy, with practical rehearsal experience.

 Adult and Catechumen Classes

Each Wednesday night after Vespers we endeavor to meet for a 45-minute class on the Basics of Orthodoxy.  Currently we are looking a bit more deeply into the written expressions of Sacred Tradition.  We are using Fr. Thomas Hopko’s Orthodox Christian Faith Series as an overall guide, but referencing other sources as well. All adults and teens are invited to join us.
