General Parish Meeting on February 18:
St. Barbara's will convene its Annual Parish Meeting on Sunday, February 18, immediately following the Divine Liturgy. (Football fans need not worry. The Super Bowl will be played on February 11). In accordance with the timing of prior meetings, we hope to start at 12:30 pm and end by 1:45 pm at the latest. All Church members, catechumens and inquirers are invited to attend. For those who are willing, food for Coffee Hour will be much appreciated. It is a Fast-Free Sunday, so any and all foods are allowed.
Church Receptions on January 20 and 21:
On Saturday January 20 at 4 pm, we will celebrate the Baptism and Chrismation of the infant Calvin Lee (Justinian) Woods. The following morning, January 21, at 8:45 am, we will Chrismate Pamela Williamson, Calvin’s grandmother and wife of Randy Williamson. We invite everyone to join us for these joyful events as we welcome them into the Orthodox Church.
Chili and Cornbread Cookoff on January 28:
On Sunday, January 28, during Coffee Hour, St. Barbara's will host its Annual Chili and Cornbread Competition. People of all ages may enter one or both of the categories. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in each category. Past winners have included children and teens, as well as adults. This is a highly anticipated part of our Winter Season. Please see Mrs. Lynn Powers for more specific information and directions. Thank you.
Congratulations Newly Received:
On the second Sunday prior to Christmas, the Orthodox Church commemorated the Forefathers of Christ, those who paved the way – historically and spiritually – for the Birth of Jesus. The feast took on a double significance in 2023, as we received 6 people into the Faith.
On Saturday (Dec. 16), we Baptized: Hagan (Moses) Baxter, Matthew (Yuri or George) Green, Angela (Dymphna) Green, Liberty (Anya) Green, and Nicholas (Nikolai) Randazzo.
On Sunday, (Dec. 17) we Chrismated, Vincent (Brendan) Fenlin.
We congratulate our newest brothers and sisters in the Faith. Many blessed years!
Winter Clothing Drive:
Last year’s Clothing Drive for the Ft. Worth Men’s Shelter was a tremendous success. This year we are conducting a similar effort through January. Cold weather is arriving, and there will be a great need for larger size NEW men’s T-Shirts, underwear and socks. Gently used sweaters and coats can also be received by the Shelter. Cash donations may be given through the Church, to be used to purchase – by parishioners – necessary items at nearby stores. Much clothing has already been delivered to the shelter and enthusiastically received. Please see Carol Guarnieri for more information and look for the collection box in the parish hall. We thank Carol, Bob and everyone in advance for your generosity.
Sunday Music Instruction:
Classes in singing and basic music theory are being offered for parishioners, catechumens and inquirers. Sessions are about 45 minutes, taking place on most Sundays toward the middle of Coffee Hour (about 12:15 to 1:00 pm). These are being led for adults and teens by Ms. Jamie Lynn Gonzalez. Jamie is a music education/performing arts majors with approximately a decade of choral, solo performance and directing experience. One does not have to be a member of the choir, nor read music to take part in these sessions. Please contact Jamie or Fr. Basil with further questions and/or to express your interest.
